Coming to Seaside first when I was six months old, it was always my dream to move to Seaside. In 2014, I followed my dream. I am now proud to be a member of the Clatsop County mental health community every day from the office overlooking the estuary as the tide comes in and goes out, the elk wander, the eagles soar, and people play on the beach.
I graduated from college the first time from Oregon Tech in 1985. After a career in electronic engineering along with volunteering as a woman engineer mentor in the schools, I returned to school and earned a MA in Elementary Education. Curious as to how some students learned more easily than others, I returned to school, again, and I earned a PhD in Cognitive Development at University of Nevada, Reno in the College of Education, Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning. After teaching for over 15 years at the elementary, middle school, and college levels, I returned to school to earn a MA degree in Counseling and Psychology. I continue to learn with each client I work with as well as formally and informally in seminars, workshops, and conferences with other professionals. Since 2009 I have been involved in teaching graduate level education and research courses online for Northcentral University, including being involved with the NCU Social and Emotional Learning Certification Program.
With over 30 years working with individuals, families, and groups in the schools and community I have developed expertise in supporting children, adolescents, adult, and families integrating mental and physical wellness in collaboration with other educational and wellness professionals. As I work with each individual, together we develop a treatment plan and goals to best meet your social and emotional needs to get to a place where you are more comfortable in the world. A range of research based interventions are available including somatic therapies (body/nervous system based), talk therapies (mind based) including EMDR, DBT skills, play therapy, art therapy, and nature therapy. Most major commercial insurance accepted, including Tricare/Triwest. I begin each session with exploring what is going well - despite the challenges!
Most mornings I can be found exploring the coast with family and dogs celebrating the wonders of nature.
Nature is truly my happy place from the calm to the storm and all the wonders in between!
